Victory over Pornography

TO DEFEAT PORNOGRAPHY

WE MUST DETERMINE IN OUR HEARTS NOT TO ENGAGE IN IT.

The psalmist determines in Psalm 101:3-4 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. [4] A froward heart shall depart from me: I will not know a wicked person.

a.) Determine ahead of the time of temptation "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..."

b.) If the moment at which you finally ask yourself, "Will I or won’t I permit porn in my life?" is when you’re already reaching for the magazine on the top shelf at Waldenbooks, or when you’re already typing in the URL of a porn site, you’ve already lost the battle.

c.) At that point, no amount of last-second "willpower" will be sufficient to cancel the action you’ve already set into motion.

d.) The time to ask the question, "Will I or won’t I?" is beforehand. In fact, it’s right now. "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes..." (Psalm 101:3).

WE MUST DISCIPLINE OUR SENSES.

Job 31:1 states, I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

a.) Job made a covenant that he would not fix his eyes upon potential objects of lust.

b.) We must make a covenant with God promising Him that we will not allow our eyes to take in the filth of the world. We must turn away from the things that cause us to lust. We must maintain purity. We must have discipline over our senses.

Pornography is not your main problem

it is only secondary

Your relationship with God is the main problem.

When you get your life right with God, then your desire for pornography will wear away.

What areas are lacking in my walk with the Lord …

and what do I need to do to get right?

Psalm 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

1. No self control

2. No discipline

Dan 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Rom 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Tit 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

2Pet 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

3. Inconsistency

James 1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

4. Materialistic

5. Debt

Mat 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

1Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

6. Hard Heart

7. No Burden for the Lost

Heb 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Rev 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

8. No Goals

Pro 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

John 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

9. Lack of interest in Family

10. Lack of love for family

11. Selfish

1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

Gal 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Eph 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

12. No desire to do God’s Will

13. Dis-content

Rom 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God

Eph 6:5-7 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

1Th 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

1Pet 4:2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

1Jo 2:15-17 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

14. Honesty

15. No convictions

Rom 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

2Cor 8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.

John 2:22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

1Tim 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

2Tim 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

2Tim 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

16. Prayerlessness

Philippians 4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

James 4:1 – 4 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
